Foundations week 2

Color Spectrum

Saffron Orange:

Saffron is actually a spice that comes from the Crocus flower they are mainly grown in Iran, Greece, Morocco, and India. Each flower produces only three threads or stigmas of saffron, and it blooms for only one week each year. The saffron must be harvested by hand! In the mid-morning, when the flowers are still closed because that means the stigmas are protected inside. It takes about 1,000 flowers to produce just one ounce of saffron. Saffron can span from a golden yellow to a nice bright orange. This is a spice that is used in a bunch of dishes around the world.

Artist research:

My artist is Ken Price. He is an American artist most known for his ceramic sculptures. The majority of the colors he used were softer colors that range from soft matte colors to vibrant color shifting metallics. The colors help show voids and crevasses and it helps show the organic form of the sculptures. It is ceramic with metallic paint. I actually really like his sculptures he made a lot of other pieces of art but his ceramic sculptures should out to me the most. I really like how organic all of the sculptures are and how the illusion of size can confuse the viewer. When looking at just the sculpture it appears as if it can fit in you hand but when you see a picture of him working on one the sculpture you can see that the sculpture is several feet tall.

Online Classes Week 1

The artist that I make the most connections with is Lucas Blalock. I feel this way because of the daily struggle he has of just finding the time to make his art while still doing a full time day job which usually means his artwork has to wait till late in the evening. I can make connections with Lucas on his views of the studio in the fact that it isn’t necessary to spends a lot of time time on one thing working fast allows you to move from thing to thing not allowing yourself to get caught up on one particular object or combination of objects to help find the the most appealing combination. Another connection that I can make id that you don’t have to go out and spend tons of money on materials. Just like Lucas if I can find what I’m looking for in cheap items then there is no reason not to work with those types of things. Lastly, I really found it interesting when he talked about he really likes the things that don’t make sense because it makes you think. I found this interesting because I am totally the opposite I like doing things that it is clear as to what it is. I think this came from people always saying, “make it so a 5 year old could understand it.” But after seeing this it has made me realize that they are gonna interpret it however they want anyway so you mine as well make it so anyone can interpret it how ever they please.

I drew this picture because we have an Xbox one in my basement. I use this a lot more then I thought I would when I got home because we aren’t allowed to go do stuff because of the virus

This is another way of me passing the time there are several artists I have been keeping up with on YouTube who do a lot of doodles and customizations and graffiti and I want to practice so I can start doing that too.

The couch is where I spend a lot of time while I’m home because there is only so much to do and I can’t hang out with friends
This is my attempt of drawing a smart tv this is the new tv I got in my new room and I use it to stream movies and videos on a ton of platforms

This is my car, I use it because it is my only way of physical escape from my house even though I can’t do anything it still allows me to have some time to myself.
This is one of the newest necessities at first it was the basic food water and close but now you can come back into my house without totally wiping everything down and washing your hands in order to somewhat protect you from what you could’ve encountered outside or come in contact with.
This is my Oculus quest. It’s a virtual reality headset it’s one of the only ways I can get away from my present state. And allows me to do things that I could never imagine like flying burrito underwater and lift things heavy machinery can’t even move. It gives me the power to do whatever I want even start time. Are use it to help me escape from the constant worry and stress of his present the present day.

Is my toilet it’s where I do most of my thinking since I don’t live in a small house and everyone’s pretty close together all the time only thinks so much of my room because you know it’s not very big.

There’s my noise canceling headphones it’s only way I can totally cancel everybody out but I need time to myself other than going alone in my car yeah I have my own room but still you can hear things the walls only stop so much noise.

I attempted to try the solution to make a point that this time we’re going through right now when you look at it doesn’t seem real you look at the timer and how far we’ve come in technology and it doesn’t seem that something like this is even possible but the more we look at it then we can figure it out and see that that’s what it is and that’s what you got to deal with.

This is my new room, well new to me I swapped with my sister because I had the bigger room and it didn’t matter because I was at school but now I’m home with a bedroom smaller then my dorm room…

This is my new room, well new to me I swapped withis a dumbbell I’m very limited to things I can do to exercise when I am home because all the gyms are close and I have no way to go anywhere to work out so I have to work with what I have and stay active anyway I can.

There’s a dumbbell it’s one of the only ones I have to be able to exercise and stay active in this time where all the gyms are closed and I’m very limited to the way I could do so because I’m not at school playing lacrosse any more.

week 7

This week we watched everyone’s final videos and they all came out very good. For the last project we did we made screen printings this was actually a lot of fun and one of the only projects I enjoyed doing and I think it was a fun way to finish up the class. The screen print Joe and I did we came up with a random saying we have came up with while dorming with each other during the first and all of the second semester so far. That saying is Sergeant Pussy Licker. There is no real mean to the saying other then what it literally says and we thought it was funny. So what better way to remember it then by putting it on shirts.

week 4

This week we finished up our flags it was very frustrating because once we were connecting the pieces to the main cloth the thread wasn’t strong enough to go through all of the fabric so it was very difficult to line up the thread where it can hold all of the fabric together but still be able to hold all of the pieces together. Along with that I put a sewing needle through my finger with was not fun to continue sewing after that had happened.
